Fall Semester 2018

Community Cello Works is about to embark on an exciting year of artistic discovery as Lisa continues her inquiry into teaching expressive musicianship from the beginning. With a large number of very young students, an accomplished rising generation of young artists in the 10-17 age range, and an extraordinary group of dedicated adult students, the CCW learning community is an exciting and supportive group. Our involvement with Alice Kanack’s Creative Ability Development, improvisation, composition, and multi-genre music-making keeps us all growing and glowing.

CelloFest 2018: Tone Painting will feature music in which the cello paints an aural picture of people, places, animals, and events, and will also include original compositions by studio members. Watch for more information about our concerts and workshops for CelloFest, April 21-23, 2019 at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Lisa’s beginner cello method The Ants Book: an introduction to the cello and to musical expression is under preparation for publication, and her informal video about how to learn The Ants Book is now up on Youtube on the Community Cello Works channel.

Last year’s pioneering online class, How To Fly Your Cello, based upon Lisa’s well-developed set of technique and musicianship-building warm-ups, has seventeen installments available on this website to studio members.

CCW cellists have recently enjoyed traveling to the first annual Creative Ability Development conference in Chicago, Tennessee Cello Workshop, Blue Ridge Suzuki Camp, and the International Cello Institute, along with many other fine events in the cello world. This fall we welcome guest clinician Zachary Preucil. Visitors are welcome any time to observe our doings!
